Hartalika Teej Pooja is performed for the long and healthy life of husbands. This puja is done to celebrate the union of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. This pooja is done in the monsoon month. Married women keep fast and complete the puja to seek blessings from Lord Shiva and Parvati.
Purpose : Hartalika Teej Pooja is performed by married women to protect their husbands from evil spirits, ill effects and negativities. This puja is kept for the benefit and success of the husband. The divine blessings of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva ensure that your husband is protected and has a long and healthy life.
Procedure : Women perform the Teej Pooja in Shubh Muhurat timings. On this day women dress up beautifully in new clothes like brides. It is a custom to do 16 Shringar on Teej. Then, using the names of Mahadev and Mata Parvati, the divine couple who represent ideal marriage, perform Sankalpa. Sankalpa is a Sanskrit word that means “determination.” One must make a solemn promise to themselves to hold the Vrat.
They can begin their vrat after Sankalpa. Those who have chosen the Nirjala Vrat are not allowed to drink water, whereas those who have chosen the Phalhari Vrat are allowed to eat fruits during the day.
Then, using natural clay or sand, make three idols: one each of Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati, and Lord Ganesha. Place a platter on top of a Chaupayi (a wooden platform). After that, gently put the idols on the platter.
Then, in front of the deities, spread two fistfuls of uncooked Rice uniformly in the shape of a circle. Then, from the circle’s middle to its eight corners, draw eight lines.
Make a Kalash in advance. Fill the Kalash with Water, Supari, Akshat, and currency coins. Then, on top of the Kalash’s neck, place Mango Leaves and a whole Coconut. Place the Kalash in front of the deities on the Rice spread. Diyas are lit and Pandit offers Kumkum, Chandan, Haldi, Flowers and sweets to the dieties. The Pooja concludes with Aarti. Women open the fast the next day with delicious dishes.
Auspicious Muhurat : Hartalika Teej Pooja is performed on the third day of the Sukla Paksha in the Bhdrapada month.
