Purpose
Lord Krishna is one of the most powerful incarnations of Vishnu. Lord Krishna symbolizes the voice of wisdom, knowledge and goodness. It is believed that Lord Krishan took birth on earth to free it from all evils and demons. He was the savior of all of humankind. Krishna puja is a way to please Lord Krishna so that he protects us from all negativities and troubles in our life.
Procedure
Janmashtami is celebrated with great zest and zeal throughout India. People keep fast and sustain only on fruits and water. Different types of delicious bhog are made to offer to Lord Krishna. It is a custom to offer 21, 51 or 101 bhog dishes to Lord Krishna on Janmastami. When the clock strikes 12 at night the puja begins by offering bhog, flowers, kumkum, Chandan, haldi, betel nuts and fruits to the Lord. a cucumber wrapped in red cloth is kept in front of the photo of Lord Krishna. Sacred mantras are recited and Krishan aarti or vandana is performed.

The Krishan Janmashtami is performed on the Ashtami tithi of Krishna paksha in Bhadon month.
